Method
Step 1:
Gently combine all of the bread ingredients together to form a dough, gradually add the water until you reach the desired consistency (you may not require the full amount).
Step 2:
Knead the dough in a mixer with a dough hook attachment for 5 minutes or by hand for 10 minutes. If mixing by hand knead for a further 5 minutes.
Step 3:
Split the dough into 3 equal pieces and roll into long sausage shapes, equal in length.
Step 4:
Plait the strands of dough together and tuck the ends underneath the dough to hold in place.
Step 5:
Place the dough on an oiled baking tray and glaze with the egg. Cover the dough with a lightly oiled cling film then prove until double in size.
Step 6:
Preheat the oven to 190°C (170°C fan, gas mark 5).
Step 7:
Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over the top of the loaf. Bake for 35 minutes until golden.

I won 1st place at a small bread competition with this! I added extra bullion instead of salt, cheddar because I had no parm, and 4 strand braided it with 2 strands of turmeric coloured dough! Was very easy, beautiful and delicious!! Making it again right now, definitely a favourite
easy bread to make and very tasty, love it with Philadelphia Cheese on or dipped in tomato soup
Absolutely love this bread.
I put all the ingredients (although I only put in 1g of the mixed herbs) in my mixer with a dough hook once its all come together just leave in to knead for 5 mins. So quick and easy.
Once plaited it rises quite quickly and has never failed to impress once cooked.
I now have this page saved as I go back to it time and time again.
Wow made this today.....I didn't put the herbs in and sprinkled Black Onion Seeds and cheese on the top and it came out perfect.
So much so that its already been eaten.
Will certainly be making it time and again. Thank you for such a great recipe.
