About this Easy Chocolate Fudge Icing recipe
Chocolate frosting, chocolate buttercream or chocolate icing. Whatever you call it, this quick chocolate fudge frosting is the best way to make rich, velvetty chocolate icing for chocolate flavoured cupcakes, celebration cakes or any bake you want to add an extra layer of indulgence to. This chocolate fudge icing is a perfect home-made alternative to Betty Crocker chocolate fudge icing, and thanks to Silver Spoon Icing Sugar this super easy chocolate buttercream is fluffy, sweet and silky to smoother onto your traybakes or cupcakes in less than 5 minutes.
We love this chocolate buttercream ontop of a rich chocolate cake for the ultimate chocolate hit, especially dolloped ontop of our Mary Berry Chocolate Cupcakes. The cocoa powder and dark chocolate in this chocolate fudge icing recipe is key to getting the fudgey, rich flavour we all love from a good chocolate cake recipe.
This recipe is our favourite chocolate buttercream recipe, but there's so many more flavours you can add to your Silver Spoon Icing Sugar buttercream which is what makes homemade buttercream such a great recipe to get to grips with! Why not try making delicious Red Velvet cupcakes with your left over cocoa powder and top with Cream Cheese Icing, or simply use up any left over buttercream with some yummy cake jars, layered with fluffy sponge, smooth buttercream and salted caramel drizzles! For the perfect silky base to any flavour you'd like to add, our Basic Buttercream is perfect for adding Nielsen-Massey Lemon Extract, Nielsen-Massy Coffee Extract or simply with Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Extract.

Recipe Reviews
My god a excellent recipe I now use it all the time thank you
Too chocolatey for my taste. Would be better with some milk chocolate rather than dark.
Very yummy and very easy to follow. This worked wonders on my Mum's 100th birthday cake!!
easy to make
Would highly recommend, although you can just melt the butter and chocolate in bursts in the microwave
As said below, if it separates and remains gritty and oily, off the heat I used an electric handheld whisk and whisked a small amount of milk continuously until it thickened and became smooth and creamy, continue until you get the consistency you want
